The Benelux as a European commercial hub

Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg form the Benelux, one of the densest and most dynamic economic areas in Europe. The port of Rotterdam is the largest in Europe by cargo volume. Antwerp is the second largest. Brussels is the administrative capital of the EU. This triangle concentrates enormous trade flows.

For Italian companies that export, the Benelux is both a final destination and a gateway to northern European markets. Italfrance S.r.l. has connected Puglia to this area with weekly departures since 2011.

Routes from Italy to the Benelux

The road route from Italy to the Benelux crosses the Alpine arc and then heads north towards Belgium and the Netherlands. The two main routes pass through the Brenner or via Frejus/Mont Blanc.

• Via Brenner: Puglia → A14 → Bologna → Brenner → Austria → Germany → Belgium/Netherlands (most direct route to Benelux)
• Via Frejus: Puglia → A14 → Bologna → Turin → Frejus → France → Belgium (alternative in case of Alpine closures)
• Main destinations: Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Liege (Belgium); Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht (Netherlands); Luxembourg City

Transit times

By FTL (full truck load), the journey from Bisceglie to Brussels takes 40-52 hours. To Amsterdam it takes 44-56 hours. To Luxembourg 38-48 hours. Times include mandatory driver rest breaks.

For groupage, add 2-3 working days for consolidation. A groupage shipment from Puglia to Brussels typically takes 5-7 working days.

Goods transported to the Benelux

From Italy to the Benelux we regularly transport: marble and stone materials, ceramics and tiles, food products (olive oil, wine, preserves), furniture, textiles and industrial products.

The return from the Benelux to Italy includes: industrial components, chemicals, technical materials, machinery and agri-food products. Regular return trips allow us to maintain balanced rates.

Available services

We offer groupage and FTL to Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Groupage is suitable for shipments of 1 to 15 pallets. FTL for loads occupying more than half the truck or for urgent goods.

Collection is throughout Puglia. The consolidation warehouse is in Bisceglie, 5,000 sqm. Full document management included: CMR, delivery note, invoice, packing list.
