Road freight Italy-France: routes and transit times

Road routes, delivery times and practical tips for road freight between Italy and France. Weekly departures from Puglia.

The Italy-France corridor

Trade between Italy and France is worth tens of billions of euros a year. Road transport is the main way to move goods between the two countries, thanks to the flexibility and delivery reach that no other mode can match.

Italfrance S.r.l. has operated on this route since 2011 with weekly departures from Bisceglie (BT). We serve Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lille and all of metropolitan France, both outbound and return.

Main road routes

There are three main corridors for crossing the Alps by truck. Each has different characteristics in terms of distance, tolls and times.

  • Mont Blanc Tunnel (Chamonix): connects Valle d'Aosta and Haute-Savoie, ideal for north-west France
  • Frejus Tunnel (Bardonecchia-Modane): direct access to the Lyon-Paris axis
  • Ventimiglia-Menton (Ligurian coast): the fastest route to the French Riviera and Provence
  • Via Brenner and Alpine arc: used for goods from north-east Italy, transit through Austria and Germany towards Belgium

Delivery times

Times vary by service type and destination. For FTL (full truck load), the journey from Bisceglie to Paris takes 36-48 hours of actual driving, considering mandatory driver rest breaks.

For groupage, times extend to 5-7 working days because goods pass through the consolidation warehouse. Times include collection, consolidation, transport, sorting and delivery.

What we transport between Italy and France

From Puglia to France we ship every week: food products, furniture, ceramics, marble, building materials, industrial machinery, components, textiles and furniture.

From France to Italy, return loads include: mechanical components, agri-food products, industrial raw materials, equipment and supplies. Managing return trips allows us to optimise costs and offer competitive rates in both directions.

Required documentation

Between EU countries there are no customs duties, but transport documentation remains mandatory. The main document is the CMR international consignment note, which accompanies every road shipment between two different countries.

In addition, a delivery note (DDT), commercial invoice and packing list are required. For certain goods, health or phytosanitary certificates may be needed. Italfrance handles all documentation on behalf of the client.
